Each manufacturer is different. However, the installation process follows these basic steps:
Step 1 – Preparation Work for Paint Protection Film Install
PPFs need to be bonded to surfaces in order for them to work properly. This can only be done if the surface is clean and free of any debris. Paint protection films are transparent so it is important to check the condition of the paint and surface beneath. This will affect the brilliance of your finished product.
What is Decontamination Car Wash? A decontaminating auto wash is typically the first stage of PPF prep. Wax-stripping car shampoo is used as a detergent. This breaks down the oil in wax and factory sealant and allows them to wash away.
If your vehicle has had a ceramic coating applied, a professional detailer that applies clear bra film will complete a regular car wash. The auto detailing service might recommend that you repair any minor scratches caused by rock chips or an older paint job.
What is paint correction? After the surface was cleaned and stripped of all initial debris, the contractor will inspect the state of the paint. The installer will recommend corrective paint to the client if the surface is worn or damaged.
To remove minor scratches and imperfections in the paint involves polishing or using cutting compounds. The final result will be a smooth, shiny surface that allows PPF’s to bond.

Step 2 – Precutting the Material
There are two main methods of applying PPF. PPF professional installers use a plotter (or a machine that precuts the material into smaller, custom-fitted sections such as fenders or door edges).
This helps reduce waste and saves both the client’s and installer’s money. It is also crucial to expedite the PPF install and make it fit into smaller sections such as door jams.
The bulk film is the second choice. This is a method used when an installer doesn’t have access to a plotter. It results in excess material, increased time, and less precision.
If you have a skilled installer, you can minimize these issues. Many of these panels are capable of being hand-cut to fit rocker panels, side mirrors, spoilers, deck lids, and more.
Step 3 – Fitting
To ensure accuracy, the installer will profit from the car protection films. There are many brands on the market for Gyeon paint protection film. Fitting the clear bra to the paintwork requires precision and time.
While it may take more time to complete the process, it is well worth the extra effort. It protects the paintwork from rock chips and scratches, which can be easily repaired with self-healing PPF.
Step 4 – Applying the Fitting Solvent
The fitting solution is an activator that allows PPF or clear bra to bond to the surface. It is applied to the painted surface along with the PPF.
Each brand has its own recommendations for fitting solutions. Some can range from distilled to chemically-activated chemicals. This allows the PPF to bond to a car’s paintwork. It blocks UV rays, oxygen, corrosion, and eventually the development of rust.
Step 5 – Application & Final Fit
This is what makes magic happen. The PPF installer can carefully fit the PPF in the right place. It’s a tedious process that involves fitting, spraying solutions, moving around, and cleaning up bubbles. After it’s placed in the desired position, the installer will use an emery board to remove bubbles and creases from PPF. After the PPF clear bra has been bonded onto the paint surface it will provide outstanding sealant protection or surface protection to the car’s exterior.
Step 6 – Drying
Drying is the final stage of the clear bra/PPF installation. You have two options: drying by air or using a specific drying technique. PPFs are usually heat-activated using heat guns or heart chambers. This activates the glue, and the material is constrained to form an extremely tight fit.
